Lobbying Kevin 07

Welcome

Dear reader, thank you for taking the time to read the newly updated "Lobbying Kevin07 - The Parker & Partners guide to working with the new Labor Government" - Version 2.0!

We think this document is an essential tome for all those interested in politics and in particular, the interplay between business and politics.

Kevin Rudd with wife Therese Rein and their children Jessica (22), Nicholas (20) and Marcus (13), outside Parliament House in Canberra, December 2006.

Kevin07 is a T-shirt to keep.

As both Paul Keating and John Howard said, in the dying days of their ultimately doomed election campaigns, if you change the Government, you change the country.

The ALP's emphatic victory will mean very significant change.

Hence this guide. It is designed to more deeply assess and analyse what working with the Rudd Labor Government will involve.

Unlike Gordon Brown's ascendancy to no 10, where Britain and business had considerable time to critically assess what the Chancellor would be like in the top job, business knows a lot less about Kevin Rudd and his new Government.

P&P does not purport to have all the answers to the many new Rudd Government questions, but we have sought to use our bi-partisan team's expertise and research skills to tackle the most pressing questions for our clients in business, industry, NGOs, government agencies and not for profits.

Andrew Parker with Kevin Rudd at the P&P 'Budget Reply' Boardroom Lunch, May 2007.

We are learning quickly - from the campaign and first weeks of the new Government - what the ALP's main focus will be. Julia Gillard has even abbreviated her title to the Minister for Productivity to give us one big hint.

The updated version of our guide contains all sorts of insights into new personalities, priorities, policies and political agendas.

We would like to thank the P&P team and external contributors who pulled this updated publication together.

Enjoy this read and keep it handy so come your next visit to Parliament House, you're ready and primed.

P.S. We are keen for your feedback, comments, corrections or brickbats. Log on to our blog at www.p-p.com.au/blog and fire away.
